Washington: Weakened Ahmadinejad may seek military adventures
Two fundamental conceptions underpinning the Obama administration's Middle East policies have been swept away by the upheaval in Iran. DEBKAfile's Washington sources report that direct or even multilateral nuclear negotiations with Iran have vanished in the distance - for one, and the premise that progress on the Palestinian peace front is the key to a breakthrough with Iran is another.
Sunday, June 28, Washington observers familiar with White House thinking cited insiders as speculating that Binyamin Netanyahu's government is too weak to survive defying the US over the settlements. If it did, Netanyahu would fall and Ehud Barak take over.

Netanyahu: PA Must Defeat Hamas in Gaza before We Negotiate
On Sunday evening at Bar Ilan University, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu delivered his long-awaited reply to U.S. President Barack Obama's historic Cairo speech. However, he also laid down stringent conditions for establishment of such a state, and -- arguably -- even for negotiations to take place.

Netanyahu's speech – more political than statesmanlike
Israel's prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu's speech at the Bar-Ilan University's Begin-Sadat Hall Sunday, June 14, failed to offer a new diplomatic beginning for approaching the intractable conflict with the Palestinians. He finally accepted the two-state solution promoted by US president Barak Obama under heavy pressure from Washington, but demanded that first the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state and accept that their state be demilitarized, be denied control of their air space and the right to sign military treaties. The Palestinians refugee problem must be settled outside Israel's boundaries and Jerusalem will remain the undivided capital of Israel with religious freedom for all faiths.
